Description: While originating from the Cognitive-Behavioural tradition, Schema Therapy has developed into its own unique form of therapy. The concepts and techniques used in the model are powerful, efficient and efficacious. As a treatment originally designed for personality disorders, however, Schema Therapy is often beyond the needs of most patients. Nevertheless, many Schema Therapy techniques can indeed be used very effectively within a traditional Cognitive-Behavioural framework.
‘Supercharge My CBT’ is focussed to directly meet the needs of therapists wishing to develop competence in Schema Therapy strategies to augment their CBT repertoire. This workshop will focus on the most powerful aspects of the model and assist clinicians to use Schema Therapy concepts and strategies within an existing Cognitive-Behavioural framework.
The workshop will explore the original schema model; training clinicians to construct a ‘Schema Informed’ Cognitive-Behavioural formulation. This richer and more informative understanding will allow clinicians to conceptualise problem behaviours that are not directly addressed within the Cognitive-Behavioural model. Participants will develop skills in core Schema Therapy treatment components; ‘experiential techniques’ (e.g., chairwork and imagery rescripting), as well as ‘limited re-parenting’. These two core components are believed to be the cornerstone of the effectiveness of schema therapy.
